GitHub Issues and Projects
What it is
GitHub Issues track work such as features, bugs, and feedback. GitHub Projects organizes issues, pull requests, and draft items into configurable table, board, or roadmap views.
Why it exists
Planning data should link naturally to source and delivery evidence. Issues/Projects let a team track work where it can be referenced by branches, commits, pull requests, and automation.
Key ideas
- Use issue types, labels, milestones, custom fields, and dependencies to make work state meaningful and queryable.
- Link pull requests to issues so implemented work and completion status stay connected.
- Projects are flexible views over work; define your workflow and metric boundaries rather than assuming a board column is an objective fact.
- GitHub Issues/Projects and Azure Boards can each serve work tracking; choose one primary source of truth or define the integration ownership to avoid duplicate/stale state.
