GitHub Projects insights

What they are

GitHub Projects insights are saved, shareable charts built from the issues, pull requests, draft items, and fields in a GitHub Project. A project can be presented as a table, board, or roadmap; insights visualize the selected project data with filters, grouping, chart layout, and axes.

Why they exist

They turn planning data into an inspectable delivery signal: for example, work items by status, owner, iteration, or a numeric estimate. The chart is only as meaningful as the project fields, filters, and item hygiene behind it.

Not the same as

  • azure-boards — Azure Boards is Azure DevOps work tracking. GitHub Projects is GitHub’s flexible planning and tracking tool.
  • azure-monitor — project charts represent planning data, not runtime service health or application telemetry.
  • devops-flow-metrics — flow metrics interpret delivery performance; an insight chart is a configured view that may provide evidence for that interpretation.

Operational failure mode

A chart can be technically correct and operationally misleading when its filter excludes work, its status field is stale, or it sums a field that does not represent effort. Before treating a chart as a release decision, inspect its item source, time/iteration scope, filters, and ownership.
